Dr Ormerod trained in medicine in Cambridge and Oxford Universities and was awarded a PhD in Cardiovascular Medicine from the University of Birmingham in 2011. His research concerned the actions of nitrite in health and disease, including heart failure and ischaemia-reperfusion injury. Dr Ormerod completed clinical cardiology training in Oxford in 2017 and his subspecialty training was in inherited heart disease, complex devices and arrhythmia and cardiac MRI.
Dr Ormerod is a consultant cardiologist in Milton Keynes and Oxford. He undertakes inpatient and outpatient general cardiology and runs the implantable devices service in MKUH. In the Oxford Heart Centre Dr Ormerod implants complex devices, participates in the inherited cardiac conditions clinic and holds weekly cardiac MRI list in the university department (OCMR). Dr Ormerod's current research projects are in the area of inherited arrhythmia syndromes such as Long QT and Brugada Syndromes. He is further a lecturer in medicine at Jesus College, University of Oxford.
