NHS 70 MK small

Arts for Health celebration of the NHS

You are invited to the Arts for Health celebration of the NHS

Arts for Health and Milton Keynes University Hospital invite you to join them for an event celebrating the NHS and the fantastic work that the staff do. The event is being held on Thursday 9 November in the Eaglestone Restaurant courtyard and all are welcome to attend.

Join us at 5pm to welcome pupils from the Langland Primary School in Netherfield as they parade onto the site with a lantern procession featuring a giant puppet of Florence Nightingale they have been working on with carnival arts company Festive Road. The procession is the recreation of an event organised by the Hospital Action Group in 1976, as part of the campaign to build a hospital for Milton Keynes.

The event will be part of the MK50 celebrations and is being funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund. The event has been designed to showcase the staff and the hospital as well as being an opportunity to appreciate the hospital’s art collection which boasts around 400 works, making it the largest public collection in Milton Keynes.

Arts for Health Director Sharon Paulger said “We are really looking forward to giving the public a chance to see the great art collection we have on show at the hospital and celebrating all the staff and the work of Arts for Health. It is a really exciting time for us as we look to improve the collection across the hospital to better support the patient’s experience.”

Art in a hospital provides an opportunity to be distracted, soothed, cheered and engaged and we are lucky to have the collection here. On that evening Arts for Health will also be launching their new exhibition programme featuring work by Naomi Rose Johnson, Laura Jones, Christine Gallagher, Graeme Roach, Nicola Sanderson and Headway Milton Keynes. Refreshments will be provided so come along and show your support for the hospital!
